WIND RIVER SENTINEL

14wx20hx8d Edition of 35

Washakie - His life spanned the 19th Century, he might be called the Sentinel of the Wind River Mountains, always looking out for the interest of the White Man. A friend of Kit Carson and Jim Bridger. President Arthur visited him in his lodge. He was honored by Andrew Jackson and Grant, yet not general-ly talked about as a great warrior except by his enemies the Blackfoot, the Sioux and the Crow.

General Crook avoided a disaster like Custer because of this great Shoshoni warrior's ability in battle. He was described as riding from one fight to the next with the long tails of his war bonnet flying back past the tail of his horse.

Washakie truly was a legend among legends.
