THROUGH CHISHOLM'S TRACKS

12hx11wx6d Editon of 75

Ole Jesse Chisholm, a Scotch-Cherokee trader up on theCanadian border made a few trips down into Texas collecting buffalo hides, cattle and other goods useful to his Trading Post. In his travels he made a trail that was the straightest and levelest that a wagon could go. Not only that, he found the safest river crossings and best camp sights between Kansas and Texas.

The first herd to follow it was driven by a man named Thompson who sold before reaching
Abilene. The second herd of Mr. Wheeler traveled in Thompsons' tracks. In this work I see the trail boss up the trail, following Chisholm's Tracks and waving for the herd to come along this way.

The saddle of the time would have likely been the old Apple Horn Saddle with a permanent mochilla in place and of course all his clothes and gear predated 1867, the year the first herd reached
Abilene. Ole Chisholm's Tracks were soon lost in the wake of millions of longhorns that came up the Chisholm Trail.
