SEES ENEMIES AFAR

17wx24hx13d Edition of 50

The names of the individuals among the Plains Indians often told a story by itself. Names like “Kills in Sight”, “Running Horse”, and “Iron Belly” (because of his Spanish armor). The names would describe the individual or some feat or characteristic of the person. In “Sees Enemies Afar”, I have used an 1860 army telescope that has been captured or found and decorated with beadwork to personalize it. Using his spyglass, he could recognize who was making the faraway dust cloud before any other scout. His honorable headdress suggests he is very courageous and also very wise and has perhaps foretold the coming of the White Man over many counsel fires.
