FREE FOR THE TAKING

30Wx24Hx16D Edition of 45

My formative years began in Lincoln County, New Mexico where I was born in 1938. My grandfather and his four sons; including my father, had rounded
up several hundred Mustangs to break and sell. We had one section of our 55 sections fenced off that was the horse pasture, of course those ole Mustangs were
free for the taking if yah wanted em.

A few of those ole ponies, all yah wanted to do when yah caught em, was to get loose from em without gittin hurt.Even when we broke em to ride, they were still mean and hard to handle. You could pretty much tell which ones to ride by their names: Ole Punkin was  easy to ride, Ole Rattlesnake could cover more ground than any of em. But yah was sure to get kicked or bit fore you could get the saddle off em. But he was after all “Free For The Taking.”
