To the Indian his war shield is
the foremost part of his war paraphernalia; on it he bestows much patient care
and thought. It must be perfect in shape, in fit, and also in medicine--several
days in the making with many prayers it becomes his protector, his medicine,
almost his God. In the dark times of the Spanish invasion very little has been
recorded, so much is left to the Artist's imagination. Here a warrior has
stolen the medicine of his enemy, a shield of the Knights of Santiago, big
medicine indeed.
